Bringing the Unimproved Portion of Mills Branch Drive up to Standards

Map of unimproved section of mills branch drive

Proposal:
Improve Mills Branch Drive between Dogwood Lane and Clover Valley Drive.

Why this is important:
An old two-lane, blacktop, country road serves the fastest growing part of Kingwood. This limits mobility, reduces safety, and constrains future growth of the City’s tax base.

Since Kingwood’s annexation by the City, tremendous growth has taken place in this area. Riverchase and Woodstream have built out. New subdivisions and commercial areas to serve them are now under construction along this section of road. Widening and improving it would improve safety, mobility, and home values.

This vital north/south thoroughfare is the only “through street” connecting the northeast and southeast portions of Kingwood beyond Lake Houston Parkway – 2.25 miles to the west.

Mills Branch Drive is also the only road connecting Kingwood to Porter east of US59 which is more than six miles to the west. Thus, it serves as a vital evacuation route in the event of a flood or hurricane.
